OHMSS Quote - Chapter 25

The next day I was to discover that I was completely wrong. What I had actually seen was Birg, the mid-way stage to the Schilthorn, which Bernard Horsfall’s Campbell had unsuccessfully tried to reach George Lazenby’s Bond from in the film.

We then came to the Schilthornbahn which would take passengers to either Strechelberg 783m down into the valley or up to the Schilthorn 2970m above sea level! The station was closed but the entrance doors were still open as the building housed a small gasthaus. There was also a small gift shop which I noticed had a few items in the window, mainly glassware, with references to 007 and Piz Gloria. Also, there were a number of card and picture displays showing the history of building the Schilthornbahn and Piz Gloria.

After picking up a couple of timetables we decided to call it a night and head back to the hotel for a good night’s sleep.

OHMSS Quote - Chapter 11

I awoke Sunday morning and looked out of our hotel window, the view that greeted me was magnificent. Huge pine filled snow covered mountains towered up in front of me and to the left and right like some giant wall with the valley far below and what appeared to be tiny cars weaving round the houses like ants on the move.

After showering and a shave it was down to an early breakfast, or at least it was for Nick! Having been a student for three years his daily routine was somewhat different! The breakfast was equally as good as the dinner the night before, but less formal as it was arranged in a buffet-style. As I tucked into my muesli I talked with Nick about our plans for the day. We had already pre-booked our ski hire, ski school and lift passes in England before we left.

This morning we were to go to the hire shop and pick up our skis and boots ready for our first lesson on Monday morning. As I hoped that Nick might in the future want to go skiing again, albeit a bit more modestly, I decided to invest in some ski clothes for us both at TK-Maxx, the discounted clothes store, before we left.
