COLLECTING 007 – UK CORGI Toys
WRITTEN & COMPILED BY KEVIN HARPER

Corgi 336 James Bond Toyota 2000GT

In 1967 following the phenomenal success of the Aston Martin DB5 (reissued in a new updated version in 1968), CORGI next issued the Toyota 2000GT featured in You Only Live Twice (1967). Although the car is not driven by James Bond in the film and has no gimmicks other than a TV screen and communication device situated in the rear of the vehicle, the CORGI edition included four firing missiles concealed in the boot. The CORGI edition also featured two figures representing Aki (Akiko Wakabayashi) and James Bond (Sean Connery), spoked wheels, twin-jewelled rear lights and the obligatory ‘Secret Instructions’. Although not as successful as the Aston Martin DB5, selling 768,000 during its two-year lifecycle, the CORGI Toyota 2000GT became highly collectible in its own right, and is now very difficult to find in mint condition.
