JAMES BOND IS BACK!
BBC2 screened From Russia With Love (1963) on Sunday 29th July 2007 as part of a season of films celebrating the Summer of British Film. The season is complemented by a major new seven part documentary series British Film Forever and the re-release of selected British films in UK cinemas including the 1964 James Bond classic Goldfinger starring Sean Connery as 007.

Way back in the mid-Seventies when the Bond films were first shown on British TV exclusively by ITV, each screening was heralded as a major entertainment event. Not only did the covers of the TV TIMES feature Bond, but there were often major articles featured inside with specially commissioned illustrations. Now in the 21st Century a screening of a Bond film on ITV hardly creates enough energy to stir a martini, let alone shake one!

When the Bond films were first announced to be up for sale to TV in the UK it created a real storm among the cinema industry causing great concern regarding falling attendance in cinemas, as industry and newspaper reports showed. How times have changed!
