From Bland to BAFTA

Daniel Craig publicity

Why the extraordinary u-turn in opinion? The answer is simple. The press and media have simply been forced to eat their words thanks solely to Daniel Craig’s performance in the role. It has not even been a case of reluctant acceptance but an overwhelming realization that Daniel Craig is not only talented (which to their credit, no one ever really denied) but that he is a firm favourite with the movie-going public and Bond fans alike. Furthermore, he is here to stay. The possibilities for Craig in the role are limitless, with a legacy in the making that could very well surpass everything that has gone before.

The possibilities for Craig in this role are endless..

I believe that people did have genuine reservations about the casting of Daniel Craig in the role of James Bond – I was one of them! However, I also believe that the majority of people, like myself, were more than willing to judge him no sooner than when we had seen him on the big screen. Unfortunately I believe the media is to blame for blowing those initial reservations completely out of proportion and subsequently influencing mass opinion.

Therefore, to both the media, and the faithful sheep who quoted all those headlines in the pub with their mates and vowed never to watch the film: you all know who you are – and we’ve all spoken to at least one of them – I hope you are enjoying your humble pie!!!

Then again, I guess the sooner we realize how shallow and short-sighted the media are the better we, as a society, will be able to understand it, appreciate or disregard it, and not be influenced so much, or even led by it. Either way, the exposure Casino Royale received, good or bad, only served to aid its astonishing success.
