70 YEARS OF JAMES BOND 1953-2023
ON HER/HIS MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE signing and screening

5 December 2023
On December 5th Ian Fleming Publications will be hosting a festive celebration of Bond, marking not only 70 years of 007 and the 60th anniversary of Ian Fleming's novel ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE, but also celebrating the publication earlier this year of Charlie Higson's new Bond adventure.

The event will be held at the Everyman Broadgate cinema in London, and will begin with a conversation between Charlie Higson and IFPL Publishing Director Simon Ward, discussing Charlie's new book, ON HIS MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE. This will be followed by a screening of the 1969 film On Her Majesty's Secret Service, starring George Lazenby as James Bond. Post-screening, Charlie Higson will be signing copies of his book (copies will be available to purchase on the night).

Ian Fleming Publications celebrate 70 years of James Bond with a party at the London Library

On Thursday 13 April, Ian Fleming Publications released new editions of the fourteen classic James Bond stories, and two Fleming non-fiction works, Thrilling Cities and The Diamond Smugglers. This release date coincided with the 70th anniversary of the publication of Ian Fleming’s first Bond novel, CASINO ROYALE. To mark the occasion IFP hosted a party at the historic London Library, which has its own links to Ian Fleming. Ian's niece's Kate Grimond and Lucy Fleming, delivered a speech on the original publication of CASINO ROYALE, with quotes from the book itself as well as from contemporary reviews. Then followed IFP Managing Director Corinne Turner, who spoke on the future of the Bond books, the exciting decision to bring the publishing of the original Fleming books in-house, as well as the imminent publication of a new 007 story - ON HIS MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE, written by Charlie Higson to commemorate King Charles III’s Coronation.

Charlie Higson returns with a brand new James Bond adventure

Ian Fleming Publications have announced a new James Bond adventure to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III. Written by Charlie Higson, this new story will be publishing prior to the Coronation and in partnership with the National Literacy Trust.

ON HIS MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE will be published on Thursday 4 May ahead of the Coronation on Saturday 6 May – and 60 years after the publication of Ian Fleming’s tenth novel, ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE, in 1963. All royalties from sales of the book will support the work of the National Literacy Trust, an independent UK charity working with schools and communities to give disadvantaged children the literacy skills to succeed in life.

Charlie Higson is the author of the bestselling Young Bond series, and Ian Fleming Productions are thrilled that he accepted the challenge of giving them his take on ‘Grown-Up Bond’!

The action of this entirely new 007 adventure brings Bond into the present day. Bond is sent at the last minute to thwart an attempt to disrupt the Coronation by the wealthy, eccentric and self-styled Athelstan of Wessex, who is on a deadly mission of his own to teach the United Kingdom a lesson. Can Bond dismantle his shady plans and defeat his privately hired team of mercenaries?

ON HIS MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE will be available digitally as an eBook, as an audiobook (read by Charlie Higson), and as a hardback, online and in bookshops from 4 May. Click here for links to order.

Ian Fleming's James Bond novels edited to remove racist content

After the recent controversy concerning the editing of children's author Roald Dahl's works, it is now the turn of Ian Fleming’s James Bond novels to be rewritten.

A report in UK newspaper The Telegraph reveals that ahead of the reissue of the James  Bond novels in April to mark 70 years of CASINO ROYALE, the first book in the series, rights holders Ian Fleming Publications Ltd commissioned a review by sensitivity readers.

Each book will carry the disclaimer, “This book was written at a time when terms and attitudes which might be considered offensive by modern readers were commonplace. A number of updates have been made in this edition, while keeping as close as possible to the original text and the period in which it is set.”

71 years ago, on February 17, 1952, Ian Fleming sat down at his typewriter in ‘Goldeneye’, Jamaica, and began writing CASINO ROYALE. His aim was to create the ‘spy story to end all spy stories’.

To mark this anniversary, Ian Fleming Publications announced that new eBook versions of all 14 of his classic James Bond adventures (as well as Ian Fleming’s two non-fiction titles Thrilling Cities and The Diamond Smugglers) are now available within the UK at all good eBook retailers.

For now, the eBooks are being distributed with holding covers, ahead of the official new cover reveals in April 2023.

70 Years of 007

4 January 2023

In celebration of CASINO ROYALE turning 70 this year, Ian Fleming Publications shared their brand new logo.

Published on 13 April 1953 CASINO ROYALE was the first James Bond book, and it paved the way for a further eleven novels and two short story collections by Ian Fleming; followed by numerous continuation Bond novels and spin-offs by other authors, starting on 1968 with the publication of COLONEL SUN by Kingsley Amis (writing under the pseudonym Robert Markham). In 2021 Ian Fleming Publications announced a new series of novels not featuring James Bond as the main character, but instead introducing readers to a new generation of Double-O agents. Written by Kim Sherwood, the first novel in the series was titled DOUBLE OR NOTHING and published in September 2022.

IAN FLEMING PUBLICATIONS Holiday Message
The original Bond adventures, plus Ian’s non-fiction titles, will be published as paperbacks for the first time under our own imprint in April 2023, celebrating the 70th anniversary of CASINO ROYALE. We hope that these new editions will not only be must-haves for our dedicated fans but also become the entry point for new fans and the paperbacks that become the first, cherished copies on their burgeoning bookshelves. The covers for these are a closely guarded secret for now, but we can say that we are delighted to be working with our old friends, the immensely talented Webb & Webb team, on the designs. Look out for them in the new year. Other editions are in the pipeline, all of which will offer something new and different, and which we can’t wait to start working on.
